Danny Cunningham Memories Memories of Danny Cunningham

Danny passed away 2 years ago due to a traffic collision in Northern California. Danny left behind a 13 (now 15) yr old son. Danny and my brothers and I did alot of fishing and hunting together. We had a riot of a time camping out pretty much all over the area. Our favorite pastime was squirrel hunting from a car on Old Stage road with a .22 scoped-bolt rifle. We shared many a fantastic summer sneaking into the drive in inside of Dannys trunk. On occasion he actualy let us out of the trunk before the first cartoon was over...
Danny hung out with Glenn Grice, my brother Mike and a few others. During the fall of 1969 I was "borrowing" pumpkins from the farmers patch across the street from Danny's on Rider Ave, Danny was amazed at the size of one I brought in, we made a jackco-lantern out of it then later smashed it. We did alot of outdoor stuff back in the day and Danny was in the middle of it all one way or another. We had lonh warm summers absent violence or drama, we had Three Dog Night, the Grass Roots and Cream...
On July 20th, 1969 Danny, Mike my brother, Jim Harmon and I were in Hollister watching Danny Ross at the Babe Ruth play-offs. Someone mentioned we were about to walk on the moon in about an Hour so we all headed home and found ourselves in My livingroom with the family there. It was weird as the Moon was a big deal as nobody thought it possible to do such huge things. As Armstrong took a stroll we all marvelled at the history being made, even us kids shut up, listend and watched.
Soon after that it was back to Cokes-chips and the .22 bolt rifle and keeping score. Mike still has the record, Danny a close second I recall. Danny was a leader of the 1971 CCS championship basketball team at AHS. The game was actualy recorded on VHS format, a BIG deal in 1971 as nobody had it but schools for educational purposes. The game was played in classes all over campus. WE WON.
